How do these compare to an Ohlin?
Ohlins is by far the best known brand of suspension in the aftermarket. They built their reputation in the 70s and 80s with their handbuilt racing shocks. They expanded into the consumer market and were the first to offer high quality materials and reasonably tight tolerances. But a consumer grade Ohlin is a production shock built in large batches, all with the same damping curves. They are built with a mythical average rider in mind and if you happen to weigh the same as that rider and intend to do the same type of riding as that mythical rider you will probably get good performance. But you will never get the performance from a production shock as you would a custom built shock. A TechnoFlex custom built shock is damped and sprung to suit you and you will find a huge improvement over any brand of shock. Do these shocks need to be rebuilt all the time? Due to the tighter tolerances of a TechnoFlex shock the product holds its performance for a much longer time. Also because it is custom built for you, the shock will come set up for proper performance with the adjusters in the middle of their range. That means that you can compensate for wear (usually a softening of the damping) by increasing the damping using the adjusters and lengthen the life of the shocks between rebuilds. How long between rebuilds will be determined by the load and type of riding you do. Light commuting puts a different load on a shock than full gear 2-up touring through Arizona in the middle of summer. Expect 20,000 - 50,000 miles between rebuilds. Who can work on these shocks? Any service center qualified (training and tools) to work on Ohlins shocks can rebuild a TechnoFlex shock. Is this a new company? TechnoFlex was founded in 1989 and has the specific data to make over 2600 models of shock to fit over 1000 models of motorcycle. TechnoFlex has the widest range of any aftermarket suspension company. Where are the shocks made? TechnoFlex is located in the Netherlands and the people who make your shock are Dutch citizens. The manufacture of your shock is not "jobbed - out". How long does it take to get a custom shock? |
